Simon pips Pete!

Photo finish. The first one of this years Tour goes to Aussie Simon Gerrans. Not sure whether to call him a puncheur who can sprint or a sprinter who can climb, but I can for sure call him a Tour de France stage winner to go along with his already rosey palmares. It was a great stage, punctuated by the very late 2nd category climb that split the field and left Sylvain Chavanel with yet another fleeting taste at a shot of stage win glory.

It was not to be though, as the RadioTrek boys on their fake Bianchi's worked hard to bring it all back together before Sagan and Gerrans battled it out all the way to the line for the win. Sagan was in perfect position, but the greenedge train made a masterful move barrelling their way between Moser and Sagan and the right race barrier, catching them both off guard. The result was Moser taking a split second too long to pull off and let Sagan through. He then had to catch back up to Gerrans wheel who had the perfect lead out all the way to the line.

Sagan was the fastest rider of the day to be sure. He came around Gerrans fairly strongly but it was too little too late and the photo finish showed Gerrans claiming the top step of the podium by less than half a foot. Great job by Orica Greenedge today, they wanted a win in Corsica badly and pulled off a great victory in the last stage before the race heads back to the mainland.
