By the throat.

The great Eddy Merckx once famously said "A win is a win. Only you can win normally, or you can win with panache." Marianne Vos lives this motto - and today was another example of her doing the latter on stage 3 of the Giro Rosa to Cerro al Volturno. She broke out with with just under 30k to go with 3 others. At 20km to go she and Tiffany Cromwell sped away from that group and managed to work together to stay out ahead. With 8km to go Cromwell was working hard to stay with Vos on the tricky descent back toward Scapoli when she lost her front wheel and went down on a medium left hand turn. Vos had already started to extend her lead at those high speeds and within seconds was out of sight...literally.

From then on it was all a formality as Vos maintained her lead for the last few km and then powered up the beautiful and brutal 19% climb the last 500 meters dished out. It was vintage Vos and the end result was a win on the stage and a one minute eighteen second advantage in the general classification.

It would seem that the maglia rosa has found a home on Vos' back and I see few possibilities of someone removing it from there in this years Giro Rosa.
